“How to say including in French?” (question was submitted by Souvira from Canberra)
For example, how do we say “I did a lot of things today including gardening”. Are there other expressions we can use apart from “y compris”?

1. “Including” as in “not excepting”:
- y compris
- dont (= of which)
I did a lot of things today including gardening
= J’ai fait beaucoup de choses aujourd’hui, y compris du jardinage.
= J’ai fait beaucoup de choses aujourd’hui, dont du jardinage.
He’s mad at everyone including me
= Il est fâché / Il est en colère contre tout le monde, moi y compris.
= Il est fâché / Il est en colère contre tout le monde, y compris moi.
= Il est fâché / Il est en colère contre tout le monde, dont moi.
- même (even)
J’ai fait beaucoup de choses aujourd’hui, même du jardinage. (= I did a lot of things today, even some gardening)
Il est fâché / Il est en colère contre tout le monde, même moi. (= He’s mad at everyone, even at me)
2. “Including” as in “if we count/include”
- en comptant (= when counting)
- dont (= of which)
- parmi le/laquel(le)(s) (= among which)
We were on holiday for 12 days including the travelling days (= if you include/count)
= Nous avons eu douze jours de vacances en comptant le voyage/le trajet.
We were on holiday for 12 days including 2 travelling days
= Nous avons eu douze jours de vacances dont deux (jours) de voyage/de trajet.
= Nous avons eu douze jours de vacances parmi lesquels deux (jours) de voyage/de trajet.

= Nous avons eu douze jours de vacances y compris le voyage/le trajet.
= Nous avons eu douze jours de vacances, voyage compris.

How to say “excluding” in French?
- hors (preposition)
- sans compter (preposition, locution) (= without counting, if we don’t count)
The ticket was $500 excluding taxes.
= Le billet coûtait 500$ sans compter les taxes.
= Le billet coûtait 500$ hors taxe.
