If it’s the middle of winter for you too (or simply if you love food!), this episode will be deliciously heart-warming (and mouth-watering). I’ll go over a few different names to describe soups in French. You’ll also discover some popular French expressions with the word “soupe”. Let me know what your favourite soup is!

Vocabulary and Spelling of the French Words mentioned in this episode
Une soupe = a soup
un potage = a soup (cooked in a pot)
un potager = a veggie garden
un velouté : a cream soup
le velours = velvet
un bouillon : a broth ; a stock (for cooking)
Bouillir = to boil
Une bouilloire = a kettle
Une bouillotte = a hot water bottle
un consommé : a consommé (clear broth)
Etre soupe au lait = to be a hot head, spitfire
Etre trempé comme une soupe = to be soaked to the bones
Comme un cheveu sur la soupe : at the worst possible moment
Cracher dans la soupe = To bite the hand that feeds you
